Yes, Thursday’s game here against the Mariners doesn’t count in Cactus League standings, nor do the statistics from it, but as Padres manager Bud Black said, it’s a game nonetheless.
Anyway, here’s the starting lineup for today’s game. I’ll do my best to post these each morning to give you an idea of who is playing and maybe break down the lineup a little bit, as we move forward.

My thoughts: Stauffer will go two innings today, followed by (in no certain order) Heath Bell, Cla Meredith, Trevor Hoffman, Joe Thatcher, Michael Gardner, Mauro Zarate and Jared Wells. As we expected, some of the non-roster invitees (DaVanon, Ambres and Gerut) are getting early looks.

Can you comment on why Chase Headley didn’t play yesterday … and why Matt Antonelli didn’t play yesterday *and* is not in today’s lineup?

Headley did played some in the intrasquad game as did Antonelli. Don’t read too much into who starts these games. It’s early and the Padres have to get a look at a lot of guys.
